The angels sang.

Lower School All-West singers rehearse Wednesday.
First they make an audition tape with music teacher Nancy Miller. Next the tapes go to music teachers all over West Tennessee. Then 12 singers and one alternate are chosen to be in the All-West Tennessee Festival Chorus. THEN they give up recess every day for weeks getting ready for their performance, taking place this year on Friday at 5pm at First Congregational Church in Midtown. But the 13 fourth graders who are heading to All-West this year to represent St. Mary's don't seem to mind. At an impromptu concert for a few adoring teachers they ran through their repertoire -- everything from Mendelssohn's "Lift Thine Eyes" from "Elijah" to a version of "This Little Light of Mine," led by Mrs. Miller and ECC music teacher Bella Murphy. Afterward, the girls showed off some of the vocal exercises they do to keep their high notes in tune and sounding sweet. Sopranos rule: They got up to a high E flat! Have fun, girls, and congratulations on being such awesome singers.
